September 12th, 2010Im 18 with zero credit history and im having trouble building my credit. My parents have bad credit so i have no cosigners. I cant buy an old car or anything. So i started small. A credit card. I was denied. How am i supposed to build credit when im not givin a chance? Where can i go to get a credit card?

How and why is my credit card affected when I open and close a credit card?
September 10th, 2010I see a great deal at a store to open up a credit card and get a prize or a rebate. If I want the big discount I open the credit card and then get the discount but I don’t want or need the credit card at all.
Is it better to close down this new card or keep it open with a zero balance? How does opening and closing account affect my credit score?

September 8th, 2010I have never had a credit card, but I have a few small bills in collections from when I was in college. They are old utilities bills, together totalling no more than 0. I haven’t been able to access my credit report online due to many address changes, but how bad can I expect my credit to be? How can I rebuild it now? I know debts in collections stay on your credit for 7 1/2 years whether you pay them or not. Help!
